Over the doorstand with Mrs Gunnhilde Bleke is a physical and visual half-mask performance that takes the audience into the absurd, humorous and vulnerable universe of an older woman in nursing homes. Through body language, masks and physical theatre, the notion explores how loneliness, lack of communication and time pressure can create distance between people -- even when the need for contact is greatest. At a busy hospital, we meet Mrs. Gunnhilde Bleke, a stubborn and self-confident patient who refuses to be overlooked. Her pronunciation is so inexplicable that nurses rarely understand what she is trying to say, and frustration is growing on both sides. In an effort to regain control and attention, she resorts to sarcasm, manipulation, and small power games. At the same time, there is one care she feels safe with, but never has time to be with her. Between patients and nurses, a relationship drama is filled with recognizable emotions, misunderstandings, and conflicts. When Mrs. Bleke refuses to take her medications, reality breaks down. She meets herself in the doorway... literally. The notion is in a surreal and visual universe. Through play with masks, physical situations and scenic images, she is confronted with who she has been, who she is, and who she could have become. The idea not only themes bullying and conflict, but also what lies behind: the feeling of being unseen, misunderstood and alone. With humor, warmth and an accessible visual expression, it opens up for reflection around relationships, old age and the challenges of today's elderly care.
