The play starts with a phone half-twelve on Tuesday. Alex has just been dumped, or <>, as he himself says. He is on Grim without a plan and without anyone else to call. So he calls Tom, who he hasn't talked to since high school. Alex doesn't exist. But you've seen him before, you know the guy. He is confident in things he doesn’t know, owes every guy in the city a span, but things go his way, even when he doesn’t deserve it. Tom has been hanging in the basement since he was 13. He has no job, struggles to maintain and develop human contact, but finds escape in his writing. Two tired guys are fictional, but it is built by real people -- boys from Kristiansand who all know one of them, or have been themselves. Karene no one writes about theatre because they never seek it. Kurt Baatz Strandberg has written the play and plays Tom. William Espand plays Alex. Both are from Kristiansand, both have grown up in basements like this, and both have spent their education learning to play others -- and then come home and discover that the most interesting thing they could play was something similar to themselves. Kurt is an educated actor and goes to work at Theatre Ibsen this autumn. William has been on scenes in Kristiansand since he was 8. These are two young people who want to show that the Southland can accommodate anything other than church singing and the pecking hill forest. The play is about friendship between boys who never learned to say the things that matter and who say anything else instead. About sitting firm, together, in a city that is small enough for everyone to know who you are, and big enough that nobody asks you how you feel.
