A 19th century agricultural and trade colony, it was known for its connection to the Donner Party, the California Gold Rush, and the formation of Sacramento as well as its proximity to the California Trail and Siskiyou Trails. Now a state park, threatened with closure in 2008. Photo: Ian Howard, CC BY 2.5, via Wikimedia Commons (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:ISH_WC_SuttersFort4.jpg)
