Each October 12 more than two million pilgrims accompany the Virgin of Zapopan from Guadalajara's Cathedral to the Basílica de Zapopan along a 9-kilometer route filled with Indigenous dancers, mariachis, prayers and fireworks. Recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, the romería dates to 1734.
